Build a wearable crown from foundation to finished piece.

Students learn to build a wearable crown of paper florals and fresh flowers, from the very first petal to the final placement. The crown mechanics are based on a modified version of Hitomi Gilliam's foundation technique, taught with her written permission.

Quynh teaches paper flower construction; Dani teaches the mechanics and fresh floral integration, including how to work marigolds into a crown for Día de los Muertos. Together the two elements produce one cohesive, wearable result by the end of day two.

A Love Letter to Dahlias

Certain flowers stay with you long after their season has passed. For me, that flower has always been the dahlia. My love for dahlias began with my grandmother standing proudly beside her prized dinner-plate burgundy dahlia with the biggest smile. Though she is no longer with me, her joy and connection to the garden live on every time I see a dahlia unfurl its perfect, intricate petals. This workshop celebrates joy, beauty, memory, and connection, and I would love for you to experience it with us.
